Yip Kim Fung, born in Hong Kong, is a composer, artistic director and music educator. Yip obtained his Master in Music Composition from the University of York UK and PhD from Dublin Conservatory of Music and Drama (DIT). During studying at York, Yip learned from his supervisor Dr Thomas Simaku and completed his PhD studies under Dr Gráinne Mulvey. As a result, yip established a strong sense of contemporary music. By learning from Chinese and Western mentors, Yip's style encompasses western and oriental flavours and colourful expressions. Yip's professional interests focus on contemporary music by exploring new musical instrument approaches and innovative notations. In his current projects, Yip is trying to find new possibilities for sound effects and timbre produced by the instruments.
